Vincent van Gogh

Image
Description: In class, we discussed the artist Vincent van Gogh. We got to create our own artwork using tissue paper and white glue. We ripped apart pieces of tissue paper and using a paint brush, pasted down our tissue paper onto construction paper. We got to create our own landscape to put on top of the background and add a drawing component using white crayon. Extension Activity: A short extension activity for this lesson would be to have students write a short artist statement (3-5 sentences). Students can explain what is happening in their landscape, how their landscape feels, and why they chose their landscape. This allows students to describe their artwork and work on writing skills.

Hidden Safari

Image
Description: In class today, we participated in the "Hidden Safari" activity. We got to create our own red glasses and identify safari animals in pictures. We created a drawing of a safari animal, drawing upside down, to help us focus on the lines and shapes. When using the red glasses we were able to see the drawing underneath the patterns. The animal drawing is drawn with a cool colored pencil and then the design is drawn using warm colored pencils.  Extension Activity: An extension activity for this could be done in a science lesson. When students are learning about different animals this would be a great way to introduce drawing. Students could have their choice of animal and learn about warm and cool colors. This is a fun way to integrate science and art.

The Dot

Image
Description: In class, we read the story The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. After reading the story, we got to create our own dot using a coffee filter. We used many different materials such as crayon, marker, oil pastels, and water color paint. Using a white crayon, I wrote smile in the center of my dot and after painting over it, it became visible. Extension Activity: Using this dot activity, students can write some words of motivation on their coffee filter. After completing the project, they can share their dot with someone in their class. This helps students build friendships and create a positive environment. This activity ties in with the book because it inspires others and promotes confidence and creativity.

Footprint Introduction

Image
Description: I created a footprint using three mediums: construction paper, colored pencil, and markers. This footprint shows my life and interests. On the top left, is my family which includes my dad, mom, and two older brothers. Below that, is a coffee cup because I love coffee and I am also a barista. Then, drawn below my name I have a school bus to represent my desire to become a teacher and a dog to represent my dog, Maya. On the right side, I also have cut out a little book and a Reese's wrapper. I love to read and Reese's are one of my favorite candies. Lastly, I colored a picture of a flower because I love flowers and summer time.  Extension Activity: Writing Activity- Students will choose one aspect of their footprint to write about (ex. their family, hobbies, or favorite food). They will conduct a short writing to explain in more detail their chosen topic. This could include their family members names, the type of sport they play, or things they do in their free tim...
